Tuesday was Owen’s first birthday!! We celebrated by having a cookout with lots of family and friends in on our deck. We decided to do a sorta froggy-type theme
- after Owen’s froggy buddy who he sleeps with every night. Owen had such a good time!! He started the evening off by showing off his walking (behind his lawnmower) skills and just general cuteness!
Then he made his rounds to say hi to all the wonderful people in his life who came to celebrate with him (thank you to all who came, we really enjoyed your company!!)

Next on his agenda wa
s stealing food from everyone's plates, then it was off to tear into all of his fun gifts -

Owen has already gotten to play with a lot of his toys gifts and loves them all! Thank you to everyone for your generosity and thoughtfulness, he sure is one spoiled and loved little boy!

After presents, he got a chance to dig into his his froggy cake - although by the time we got to cake he was so tired - he wasn't too sure about it -
but he did get some on his elbows and in his hair, so I’m thinkin that definitely counts as cake enjoyment!!
At one point he even tried to lean forward and take a big bite off the side!!

Here’s the sp
read with his ‘real’ froggy buddy and the froggy buddy cake and all the cupcakes Grandma made for Owen!!
A
after cake it was time for goodbye and Owen even showed off his kissing skills with his cousin
Then it was time for a nice bath and bed, what a fun filled night of partying!!
The best part of the night (for me anyway) was hearing him say his new word (the word I've been waiting for forever!!) "Mama" - yes, the kiddo could say "that?" (what's that), "this" (what's this), quack, duck, dada, etc - but no mama - only blew raspberries at me when prompted to say it before. But today, cousin Dylan kept saying it to try to get him to - and all of a sudden, he did it!! It definitely brought a tear to both mine (and Scott's) eyes !! :)
What an awesome day for Owen! Thank you again to everyone for coming and making Owen’s first birthday memorable and special! Thank you also to everyone for help with setup, decorations, and food!! We couldn’t have pulled it off without your gracious efforts to help!!
So what else is our little ONE year old up to these days?

- eating cheerios, crackers, PB&J, and most recently: refried beans (ha!) but for the most part – still mostly eats babyfood
- crawling around like a little lightning bolt
- cruising like crazy around furniture
- walking behind a push toy
- loves being outdoors
- takes two naps a day (usually about 2 hrs long ea at home or 45 min long ea at daycare)
- sleeps from about 830 pm - 7 am (or he'll sleep in on weekends sometimes until 8 or 9)
- loves to 'dance' - he bounces up and down whenever he hears music
- is very curious and observant
- understands cause and effect when playing with toys (throwing the ball, pushing buttons, etc)
- just realized how to knock
- gives “five”
- is just a happy, happy little boy!!
