Four Months!

Our little lady is four months old! (plus a week)…Where the heck does the time really go?!

So what has Sydney (aka littles, aka peanut, aka baby girl) been up to lately?

  • Loves her brother, she laughs out loud when he plays with her and she is in awe of him and wants to be just like him

IMG_5418

  • Is a very easy baby but is very needy at the same time
  • She is SO happy…

IMG_5319…well, most of the time…

IMG_5438

  • Is starting to be more and more interactive and loves play time and getting lots and lots of attention
  • Loves playing ‘super littles’ (as illustrated below)IMG_5399
  • Loves to chew on her hands or a blanket
  • Just discovered her feet
  • Loves to stick her tongue out

IMG_5504

  • Talks A LOT! (she’s a great story-teller!)
  • Reaches out for things – pretty much anything that gets within reach
  • Wears size 1 or 1-2 diapers / size 3-6 mo clothes and even some 6-9 month more for length
  • Weighs in at 13lbs 7 oz – 50th percentile
  • Is 24.5 inches long – 50th percentile
  • she had some shots @ her 4 mo appt and she did great, was more upset by the oral one than the actual shots, she just cried at the initial poke and then as soon as I picked her up she was calm as can be! she had a bit of a fever the next day but slept it off and was just fine!
  • Head circumference is 90th percentile (I’ve said it before: my kids need big noggins for all those brains!)
  • Drinks about 4-6 oz 5-6 times a day – The Dr gave the all clear to start cereal within the next month or so, I think we are going to try in a few weeks
  • Still not sleeping in her crib (we had a mini-breakthrough and she slept in it for a couple nights, but has resorted back to her old ‘bouncy lovin’ ways) or through the night on a consistent basis. Sometimes she will sleep from like 9-5 but that’s about as good as it gets (I am CERTAINLY NOT complaining!) Most nights she gets up at least once and sometimes, especially lately, its like 3 or 4 times a night

IMG_5311

  • Not that everyone needs to know about her bowel activity, but she is still not pooping every day on a consistent basis, longest stretch was 6 days! dr says this is fine and normal sometimes for breastfed babies and that she wasn’t concerned!
  • She loves bath time

IMG_5464

  • She has the brightest bluest eyes and just stares at everything so intently

IMG_5441

She has tiny little feet – that I could just gobble up they’re so cute. I pretty much hate feet (they’re nasty) but baby feet are too sweet! IMG_5444

She is quite the ham and loves when mommy dresses her up….IMG_5513

Here she is with an attempted froggy buddy pic – except she has to jam EVERYTHING into her mouth! IMG_5515

She decided to cooperate, but notice the dress is still hiked up, she’s gearing up to jam it in her mouth for sure! IMG_5514

And here she is with her friend, the pink bear (and dress still hiked up)….IMG_5519

…and that’s what miss Sydney has been up to! She’s such a busy little girl!

We love our littles to pieces!

Two Years

UPDATE:  See way down toward the end of this post for some new birthday pics…

For someone’s second birthday, Owen and I baked a cake the night before and then decorated it the next morning – we improvised with the decorations and spelled Owen's name and the number 2 with some twizzlers and then used some random sprinkles we found in the cupboard. it was strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting – yum! IMG_5368 IMG_5373 IMG_5416 IMG_5429

IMG_5430 Owen actually slept in rather late for him as far as sleep went on vacation, he got up at 730! when i got him changed and ready I sung him happy birthday and he loved it! he proceeded to sing it to himself randomly all day long! so sweet! we also threw in the ‘cha cha cha’ to the happy birthday and he LOVED that!

Owen got to open his presents in the morning, we got him a Mickey card that played the Mickey mouse clubhouse song and also a Mickey mouse fishing pole. IMG_5359

Grandma and Grandpa got him a cute little sleeping bag with froggies on it and also a little froggy that attaches to the top as a pillow! he loved it all! IMG_5445 the pole became practically another appendage for him – he took it with him EVERYWHERE we’d let him…

pole in hand while travelling on 0n the pontoon…IMG_5375

…while going swimming…

IMG_5391

…while playing in the sand… IMG_5387

and finally we had to put it away…

So, what else has Owen been up to lately?

Too smart for his own good! if you tell him it’s the last one of something he’s eating or that we have to leave somewhere soon or go to bed, he will take his SWEET TIME with whatever it is he’s doing to avoid having to go to bed or whatever….such a stinker!

He also thinks his way in and out of things, he wanted to drive Gran's car the other day after they pulled into the driveway and Gran told Owen no, so all of a sudden he threw his frog in the front seat as he was climbing out of his seat and said froggy in the front me go get him….

He says 7ish word sentences

Counts to about 14

Knows most of his colors

He LOVES his ‘baby Sydney’

IMG_5422 Knows that his name is Owen Kole and spells his first name

Talks about things with adjectives, big yellow truck, small baby ducky, etc.

If he is trying to tell us something that we can’t understand, he will tell us in another way until we understand him

If he doesn’t know the name of something he calls it ‘that one’

Wears 2T-3T clothes, size 7 shoes, size 5 diapers

Is getting to be such a little man!IMG_5449

Loves to run around!IMG_5453  Not potty trained yet, but think we’re getting there – he was playing with his potty (which normally he won’t go near) the other night and I walked in the bathroom after it being entirely too quiet for my comfort, and found him standing there next to his potty with a pile of poop next to it! not quite, but good try!

Puts a y at the end of a lot of things he says – I want some milky, sit on lappy, all done-y…so stinking cute I can’t bring myself to correct him!

He loves to sing, favorite songs are Wheels on the Bus (which we sing with the names of all the people he knows, his favorite verse is with his little girlfriend’s name… the laineys on the bus say hi how are you…) he also loves Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Old Mac Donald (Ole Magakle is what it sounds like when he sings it), and many many other songs!

He LOVES books, we read in the morning, afternoon, and evening – and most days when I pick him up from school he is reading a book too!

He loves to help, he will throw stuff away for me, or pick up something he finds on the ground, or he’ll give baby Sydney her paci if she needs it…here he is wiping up some drool from her chin…IMG_5424

He is starting to ask “Why, Why, Why?” all the time and sometimes he answers his own question with “because” or “cuz” He will also ask “big why?” which I think is so adorable!

He LOVES his croc shoes, and has to tell everyone he sees about them, we might be in a store or something and he’ll see someone and lift his foot up and say “my croc shoes” only ‘croc’ doesn’t have the ‘r’ sound in it when he says it!  ‘Fork’  and ‘Clock’ are also two humorous words he pronounces without the ‘r’ sound – I’ve been quite embarrassed in Target as he saw a ‘big clock’ and a ‘little clock’ and had to announce it for all to hear!

Although we start ‘bedtime’ around 7, he is sleeping from about 830-7 on week days and then sleeps a little later (although lately its been earlier) on weekends

He takes one afternoon nap a day – about noon-1/2 at school and around 1-3/4 at home

Still insists on doing things himself…”me me do it” or “I me do it”

Had his two year check up and he was terrified! kept saying “no doctor” when we were in the room.  He had to take his shirt off to get weighed and he told me “Mickey shirt back on” when we got out to the scale.  The nurse assured him that he would get a special treat after the Dr checked him out, and he didn’t let her forget that, he had to remind her before she left the room.  When the Dr came in Owen was a little unsure too and had to stay on my lap, but he did pretty good…then I told him the nurse had to come back (he had to get two shots) and that the nurse was a ‘nice lady’ so he kept saying “no lady, no lady”.  Then, the nurse didn’t realize the Dr had already left the room so we had to sit there for about 10 minutes before the she came back, all the while Owen just sobbed (not screaming just sobbing, the poor thing was so upset!) I tried singing, which worked for a minute or so, then I tried everything else I could think of – and nothing worked, he didn’t even want froggy!!! He kept saying “no lady” and “go home” finally I thought I could show him pictures on my phone, so I pulled it out and asked him if he wanted to see pictures of ‘baby Meggy’ and that did the trick!  Once the nurse came in with her helper, he was a little overwhelmed and tears really started flowing, but the shots themselves were not that bad, just a little cry because it scared him and then i got to pick him up and he was ok, just a little weepy, but then he got to pick out a special treat (a yellow race car and some smarties) and he was the happiest boy ever!  I showed him his blue cammo band aids on his legs once we were in the car, and kept lifting up the legs of his shorts to see them and he would whisper ‘whoa!’

His stats were  32.4 lbs – 90th percentile / 35” – 65th percentile / head was off the charts! (like usual!)

Dr said everything checked out great and he got a clean bill of health!

As I was trying to get his froggy buddy pic taken on Sunday he would NOT sit still, so I said, lets just take one picture and then we can go grocery shopping (the kid Loves shopping). So I snapped a pic and he smiled nicely (see below) but I wanted to reposition him and take another, and he looked at me and said, ONE picture…go shopping…what could I say, I couldn’t argue with that one! we had to leave!

IMG_5523

and here is a little comparison over the course of the past year…

We’ll be having a small little celebration later this week with fam, since we were away over his actual bday so I’m sure I will have more pics later this week to share!

Kole Family Vacation 2010

This year marks the second year that we’ve taken a week long family vacation over the 4th of July up in Ludington at Scott’s parent’s cottage.

We started our vacation on Friday the 2nd  - we were all packed and ready to head up to the cottage right when I got out of work.

Grandma and Grandpa were up there with us from Fri-Monday and then Gran and Grandma came up the next Friday morning and Grandpa came up on Friday evening….

Once we got there on Friday, just hung out and relaxed and the kiddos took a bath and got used to the cottage…

100_0562 then on Saturday, Owen and Sydney played out on the deck

100_0568 went fishing, fishing and oh yeah, did I mention fishing? Owen had this cute little Fisher Price fishing pole to play with and he would dip it in the dirt in the worm container and fling it out into the water. He was entertained for hours doing this

Here he is carrying the little pole and a container of worms – notice he is still in his jammies (no time to get dressed in the morning when there is fishing to do!)IMG_5344 During his nap that afternoon, he slept almost 3 and a half hours! All that sunshine wore him right out!! After his nap, we headed out to the Dokter’s annual 4th of July party and had a great time! Here’s a pic grandma took of herself and Owen @ the party…

100_0597 On Sunday, we decided to take Owen to the parade…We went last year and he loved it so we were hoping for the same fun time this year…

100_0604 Grandma and Grandpa watched Sydney, cuz we thought it might be a little hot and loud for her. Owen was so excited for the parade to start, he could hardly stand it! He whispers when he gets really excited, check out this video!

Once the parade started it was another story though! he was TERRIFIED. He was literally shaking and kept saying “ride in mommy’s car, ride in mommy’s car” because he just wanted to leave. After about 15 minutes we decided we had tortured him enough, so we decided to head to the state park to walk around and check out the dam. Owen had a lot more fun there!

The rest of the week was spent fishing some more, IMG00802 eating ice cream from the House of Flavors (someone loves their blue moon!),at first he just sat with it and wouldn’t eat it, I think he was amazed it was all his! then he wouldn’t eat it with his spoon, he would only eat it with his fingers for some reason….IMG_5338 IMG_5329 IMG_5323

IMG_5339 we also made strawberry jam

100_0608 went on lots of walks, went shopping downtown, played at the playground,

100_0570

chewed on some toys…100_0607

ate lunch on the deck…

100_0637 baked a birthday cake in celebration of someone’s 2nd birthday (more on that in another post) (notice the stance here and the attire?  crocs, diaper and a mickey shirt…now that’s cottage livin’ !)  :)

IMG_5350

went to the children’s museum (someone refused to do anything other than ride in this truck)…DSCF5065 We went for lunch downtown, ran through the sprinkler, went to the beach (here’s syd in her getup for her first trip to the beach, she looks a little uneasy, but let me assure you, she had a great time! she fell asleep in the pontoon on the way there and back!)DSCF5063

you can kinda see her little ruffle-butt bikini in this pic…. IMG_5396 Owen and papa enjoying some licorice (or lick-a-lish) on the way back home…IMG_5408

Here’s Syd at the beach another time hanging out with her baby doll…

fishing!

100_0650 we went out to eat at Barnhart’s on the way back to the cottage, and Sydney fell asleep with her hat coming off and situated in a somewhat frog-like position, it was too cute!! IMG_5489

100_0643 the rest of our week consisted of playing on the sea doo (or the bombardier – for fun, we pronounce it redneck-like…bom-ba-deer…. :) IMG_5497 one of the times we went out, it wouldn’t start after we lowered it, so we paddled toward shore…IMG_5500

… and grandpa threw us a rope to tow us in…

 IMG_5501

owen and papa also fished from the paddle boat, IMG_5460 Owen helped grandpa drive his remote control boat…IMG_5492

Mr Murphy just chilled out ….

100_0620

Sydney practiced her sitting skills with Gran…

100_0640

We really lucked out with the weather this week, it was SUPER hot and we had mostly sunny weather though it was pretty windy for the first part of the week…but since it was so warm and humid, someone’s hair was WILD…

IMG_5353 Here are some other random occurrences of the week:

  • owen got to sleep on a cot instead of his pack n play (he was getting to big for it and didn’t sleep well in it)
  • After he got comfortable with it after the second day or so, he would just let himself out of his room in the morning and after naptime, which kind of happened as an evolution – as at first when he started sleeping on the cot he’d still call for us when he woke up for a couple of days, then once he realized he could just get out on his own, he did! So scott did what any other parent would do :) , he decided to get a rope from the garage and tie his bedroom door shut by tying it to the doorknob to the closet doorknob in the hallway…during owen’s nap, scott showed me his solution to the problem and said “so, how do you like my parenting skills?” nice. all i have to say! :)  IMG_5456
  • owen was eating goldfish crackers in the living room and scott and I were around the corner in the kitchen – all of a sudden owen runs in and says baby Sydney, fishy…I knew immediately what he had done – and sure enough, when I got in there she had a little goldfish tail sticking out of her mouth and was gnawing away at it, it was kinda broken up but I managed to get most of it fished (haha) out of her mouth! good thing those dissolve quick! little stinker owen has never tried to do anything like that before and we had a discussion about how baby sydney only eats milky!
  • Owen was such a good little helper and listener most of our vacation.  Once time he and scott were outside and scott needed to get something so he told owen to sit on the little picnic table up on the deck and wait, I could see him from inside and there he said patiently with his hands folded in front of him waiting for his papa to come back!
  • scott and I both felt like owen seemed to have grown up even since we  started vacation.  When we were talking about it one night, we wondered if it was just because we were spending so much more time with him and really realized everything more than just during the little time we usually get to spend with him on evening or weekends or if he was really growing up that fast?!
  • Owen sent his froggy as an SOS…by the end of our vacation, Owen was having having a hard time falling asleep and would cry like crazy sobbing for mama when he had to go down…I would go in there and lay with him forever and he just wouldn’t fall asleep, we figured he was just getting homesick and needed his own bed, cuz it just kept getting worse and worse with each day, and Owen is usually one to EASILY go to bed (we decided to go home a day early - gran came up on Friday morning to spend the day and night and she took Owen, Syd, and me home Saturday afternoon). Anyway, during his nap on Saturday he would NOT go to bed, so I told him I was not going to lay with him anymore and that he couldn’t cry because he needed to go to sleep so he could go home. We were all on the deck enjoying a nice fish fry (er, bake) with some of the yummy fishies (or fish in non-kid speak) the guys caught, scott went inside to get something and came back out and asked if I had taken owen’s frog away from him – I said no (would never take that prized possession away from that little guy, would be too torturous) I asked why…he said well, because its in the hallway outside of his door! apparently he had shoved it under the door in an SOS attempt to get us to go in there, cuz he had poopy buns and wanted us to change him, but mama had told him he needed to go to bed and there wasn’t any crying allowed! what a little problem solver!!

the rest of the week was just spent relaxing and doing things like watching tv and cuddling with papa…

IMG_5298

100_0680 …looking cute…

IMG_5316

more fishing !

100_0687 …hanging out with grandma and grandpa in the morning everyone still in their jammies…

IMG_5417

100_0631 …oh yeah, and dressing up in crazy mesh leggings that were cut off the sleeves of our coverup (I am not even going to insert the tagline here…)

100_0642

It was a great week of relaxation, fun, and spending time together…
