Baby Quarterback

...and just in time for the Super Bowl! My little babe's skull isn't shaped correctly, hence the helmet. He'll wear it 23 hrs a day for the next 3-5 months. Right now we're just easing him into wearing it all day so he wears it a couple hours and then has it off for an hour.

I think it bothers me much more than it bothers him...I cried the first time he put it on. He just smiled and acted all cute like normal...Scott and I think the hemet needs some flair to jazz it up a bit!!

This weekend, O is sick again, he has a cold :( His poor little eyes are gooping up and getting all crusty and his nose is runny.... However in typical Owen fashion, he is still a little trooper - just sooooo tired!

In other weekend happenings...Friday, Scott had the day off, since his work is now on 32 hour weeks, so he went out ice fishing in Allegan and caught quite a few Walleye...here he is with the prized catch of the day...we baked it for dinner tonight and it was so good!!

Also this weekend, we finally found a Wii Fit! I got a chance to check out the Wii Fit at Heidi's house earlier this week - he went and picked up dinner and hung out at her house playing Wii Fit like a couple of little kids. We had such a fun time with it and I knew I really wanted to get one. So Scott, being the awesome husband that he is, went to Best Buy this morning in search of the elusive Wii Fit....He said almost everyone in the store had one in their carts (they got a shipment of them in last night) and he didn't think there would be any more left, but there two on the shelf - yea! I've had fun with it today - and especially like the yoga portion of it, and of course the fun games (the soccer game is my favorite!)

Well enough for now, I think I'm coming down with a cold too - so I'd better go get some zzz's, cuz who knows how well O will sleep tonight!

Milestones and More...

We've had such a fun and relaxing weekend, especialy compared to last weekend!!

Last weekend started out on the wrong foot to begin with because on Thursday...I began the day discovering that the contents of my purse had been stolen! So basically I spent the morning at home calling in fraud alerts, putting passwords on my bank accounts, reporting the incident to the police, and anything else I could think of to protect myself. I guess the positive aspect of things is that my purse was NOT stolen, I am positive it was a man who stole my things, because any woman would know a COACH purse and wallet when she saw one! :)

Friday my day began discovering Owen had thrown up all over in his crib...he had the flu!! Needless to say both Scott and I also got it, so you can already see where we go from there...The bummer was that it was Scott's friend Andy's wedding day on Saturday, and he was the best man - I made it to the wedding but had to go home afterwards and Scott made it almost to the end of the reception....The wedding was beautiful we just wish we would have felt better!! :(

So needless to say, this weekend was nice not to have theivery or sickness in our midst! Scott worked on the kitchen/dining some while Owen and I went on an outing to Grandville yesterday afternoon. Then last night Granmuffin watched O, while Scott and I went to Kelly and Steve's to hang out with them along with Greg and Alyson! We had a great time talking, pigging out and playing Wii (we are such awesome rockstars!) Today, I was able to sleep in until 9:30, which was awesome! Thanks, Scott! :) And we plan to spend the rest of the day just laying low and doing nothing!

I've been meaning to put a little list of milestones and/or other things Owen has been doing at roughly 6 1/2 months, but haven't gotten around to it, so here we go...

6 mo stats: 19 lbs; 27 inches tall
turns on the mobile in his crib in the mornings on his own
puts his pacifier in his mouth on his own
loves his feet/toes
possibly starting to get some chompers in his little mouth
sitting up on his own
eats cereal/sweet potatoes, applesauce, mixed veggies
discovered that splashing is something he has control over in the bath
able to grab small things with thumb and forefinger
has object permanence (he remembers something is/was there even after its gone)

And of course what blog entry would be complete without some pics of the little man himself...

Little drummer boy, he thinks he's too cool with his drum (he should have joined our band last night!)...

Bath time - he loves to play with the bottle of soap...

Snow baby...all bundled up...

We took him out for his first ride in the sled he got from Grandma and Grandpa for Christmas (thank you for the fun gift!)...we just went up and down the driveway a few times, but he loved it!

Thawing out...

Here and Now

Our holiday home project is almost complete - we've got just a few pieces of trim to put up and then paint the hallways and we are D-O-N-E done. The floor looks awesome thanks to my hubby's hard work!! The dogs on the other hand don't really feel the same about it - they hate sliding around. So I did what any good puppy mommy would do and took rugs from around the house to make a path from our bedroom, down the hallway, through the dining and kitchen and into the living room (I'll have to figure out an alternative once we get everything finished).

This normally would be quite a stretch for me, not having a plan in place, not knowing what exactly was going to happen. Not to mention living in the sort of chaos we are in right now; our dining room table consists one lonely chair, counters are strewn with hammers, tape measures, paint, and more, family room is uninhabitalbe due to the dining table and chairs and other odds and ends shoved inside from the project.

But I'm trying something different, I'm living in the now...not going to worry about when it's going to be done or what a mess we've got going on. I'm going to enjoy the project for the process that it is and when its done - we'll get there!! :)

Beyond that, just trying to recuperate from the holidays, crazy being back in the grind again...Little O struggled his first day back in the swing of things - just fussier than usual and not really sleeping. But he had a nice relaxing day with Grandma Kole all day today and took some awesome naps - so hopefully he'll get back on schedule!!

Right now O is in the bouncing stage, he loves to bounce and does this at any point, when you're holding him, he's sitting in your lap, or in his little activity center. He's also still talking up a blue streak(that one's for you, babe)...saying da da da da da all day long (how I long to hear mamama, or maybe not?!). He has recently started grabbing his feet and pulling off his socks or just holding his toes (he especially likes to do this in the middle of a diaper change).

Another thing he's doing (or I hope he will begin to do) is learn sign language. I recieved a signing book for Christmas; the idea of signing to my baby never really occured to me before, but once I read the book it really struck a chord with me and I thought I'd give it a try. Right now we're learning just three signs 'mommy', 'daddy', and 'eat'. We just started last week, so not much to report, other than its definitely something I have to really keep up with myself and remember to reinforce signs at appropriate times.

Here are some of the fun faces of O, the first two taken within seconds of eachother. The third just a priceless shot of him hammin' it up (he LOVES the camera!) - can you tell who dressed him this day?!?

Adventures at Granmuffin's

Since Monday, Owen and I have made our home at my mom's house while Scott re floors the kitchen and dining room at our house.

We've had a fun time taking over Grandma's house with the menagerie of O's baby stuff. O loves hanging out with Grandma who has also acquired a new name; Granmuffin. Origins of this name lie within deep rooted family craziness wherein a certain uncle refers to himself as Uncle Fun - Grandma thought this would be a good addition to her name as well so Grandma-fun came to be - when said fast, Granmuffin it is.

O has done great being away from home for so long, he is sleeping pretty well at night and does great during the day...there are a lot of fun things for him to do - like play Wii, play with the dogs, and even the insane cat.

The floor is coming along, just a few more pieces to go as of about 7 pm tonight. I'll post some pics when its all done. One more night at Granmuffin's and we'll be heading home!
