7 1/2 weeks old
With dooms-day fast approaching (next Tues, the day I have to return to work) we have been trying to get Owen on a schedule at night to see if it helps with getting him to sleep longer stretches (while mamma is getting used to the sleep deprivation, getting up every 2-3 hours is starting to take its toll).
Our routine includes a bath around 7:30ish, which he loves, then he gets dried off, lotioned up and dressed, and I get his room set up for bed (turn on the whitenoise machine, set the lights really low and turn on the ceiling fan), he eats and I rock him while burping and finally he goes down to sleep around 8. When we started this - he was sleeping until about 12 or 12:30 (still a great improvement from before) - then it progressed until 1 or so - and then last night....(drum roll please)...he slept from 8-2 !! thats 6 hours !! I figured he'd be back up around 430 or 5 - nope - he slept until 6:30!!! what a great night and hopefully only the start of whats to come!!
The newest milestone for Owen is him finding his thumb. He doesn't find it every time, but when he does, he loves it and is so happy and looks sooo cute!!
In other happenings...last night I decided to raid Owen's closet and just put him in something crazy (he seems to like getting dressed up, I swear) so here's what we came up with...his bathrobe (aka smoking jacket), sweet old man hat, and some crazy booties that are MUCH too large for him (imagine that - something to BIG for Owen - my chunky monkey?!)...
And since its all about him...another picture for good measure...

Lots of Firsts
5 weeks old
So...here I am... writing my first blog entry - about firsts. Little Owen (my 'first'born) is five weeks old today, and time is flying by way too fast. I'm just trying to cherish every moment home with him before I have to return to work - and while he is experiencing all of his first special moments...
His first picture.... and First smile caught on film...

First bath...(at almost 5 weeks - cuz his darn cord would NOT fall off..but hey they say its cuz I had such a healthy pregnancy...so I guess I shouldn't be complaining)...

I could never imagine the extremes of being a momma...extreme love, pride - oh and EXHAUSTION, but its worth it! Getting up in the middle of the night the first couple of nights was crazy - since I hadn't gotten much sleep over the past 4 nights (I had a c-section and was in the hospital for 4 days) and I was trying to adjust to everything...but honestly, I have come to look at it in a different light - since each moment is precious, and he is getting older by the second! Each night he gets up is the last night he will ever be that old again-at that stage in life again, and even though I'm exhausted I just cuddle him close during his 2 am feedings and enjoy those moments...Although I have come to adjust to sleep deprivation - somewhat, anyway...I have had my moments. Like unsnapping his little sleep-n-play outfit when I'm ready to feed him (instead of unsnapping my nursing bra) or putting the milk in the cupboard...
Tonight we had our first grocery shopping outing - and probably not the best time to have taken it, as Owen was totally sleep deprived, he had not napped at all today- cuz momma was trying to break the napping in the swing habit and tried (unsuccessfully) to get him to nap in his crib and he had probably only slept a total of 2.5 hours since 7 am. It was interesting, but he LOVED the little CD trial thing in the baby aisle - it was playing some crazy kid music and his eyes got really big and he calmed down and all of a sudden fell asleep, so - we hung out there for a few minutes to make sure the sleep would last - then the outing got a little better!!
Anyway, thats my latest struggle, trying to get him to nap in his crib - any suggestions would be much appreciated!
