We signed up for Little Kickers soccer this fall – its a little three on three game on tiny little fields – its a lot of clusters of kids around a ball!! :)
he learned a lot of new skills and had so much fun!! The season got off to a slow start for him when in the first game he scored a ‘goal’ …in the other team’s side! he knew what he did right away and from then on he was NOT going to play…took him a couple of weeks to get back into things…But once he did, he loved it and even scored quite a few goals (in the right goal!)
did I also mention that we signed up to coach also? yeah…well scott ended up teaching on the nights that soccer was held, so *I* got to coach!! I know (very) little about soccer….thankfully it was just for three and four year olds and the didn’t know the difference…also thankfully I got to co-coach with Nicole (Lil’s mama)…we ended up having a great time with it!
Owen and his little buddy…Lil…
Little peanuts playing soccer!
Action shot of Owen running toward the ball!
Gettin in on the action..
What Syd did during most games…reading and also eating snacks and playing with isabella (lil’s sister)….
The whole ‘team’!
Love owen’s little pose here!!!

two.and.a.half.
September marked Sydney being the ripe old age of 2 1/2!
I did take pics and write everything up back in Sept, just a little late in getting this posted!
here’s some stats and general info:
she is wearing a size 2T/3T and a size 7 shoe
She’s still in diapers – wears a size 4. we are working a little on potty training, but she isn’t too interested in it yet, so we’re not pushing it too much.
as of sept she was still sleeping with her fifi (paci) and blanket
she takes one nap – about 1-3 hrs
she weighs about 27 lbs
Here’s what Miss Sydney’s life looks like:
She loves to read! she will read books out loud to herself – so sweet. When she reads out loud, she sort of smacks her lips in between words sometimes …super cute :) She also loves to be read to. she typically asks to take a new book to bed with her each night and almost every day she wants to take one to school too! At bedtime, she will reach out to her light switch and try to turn the lights on so she can read…little stinker!
She also loves to sing! some of her favorites are baby bumblebee and twinkle twinkle little star…she will make up songs to the tune of different songs too…the other day in the morning: there’s no light in here, not a light in my room over and over to the tune of rock a bye baby….she also loves to sing along to the radio!
sorry you’ll have to tilt your head to see this, I tried to rotate it, but i guess it didn’t work…
She calls cupcakes ‘pupcakes’
if she wants something, she will say: ‘please i can have...’
conversation the other day:
me: ‘look at your little foot’
s: ‘thats not my little foot, thats my big one, little one right here!’
She’s quite the observer and thinker…we were out for icecream downtown and syd saw some flowers on the counter: “look at the pretty flowers, people made them” Papa: ‘yes, they are pretty, and people probably planted them, but do you know who actually made them?” without missing a beat syd: “Jesus!”
She is quite the little diva still…she definitely wants things her way and her way only. she will get pretty upset when she is told no and often goes into her room and slams her door! (oh my, what will the teenage years be like?)
here’s a little example of her sassy pants nature….she and owen were playing and they were talking to each other. Owen didn’t hear what she said so she repeated it, he still didn’t understand so asked her what again...she huffed loudly, said “owen” in a snotty little voice, then went right in his face and whispered whatever it was that she wanted to tell him. wow.
She is very meticulous - up at cottage, she had her babies outside on the rocker and put a blanket on them...then she would go lay down on a lounge chair, pretend to sleep for a second, then walk back to her babies, push the blanket out of the way, pick up each baby, slide her arm around them, pat their back, then take the blanket pick it up, shake it out 10-13 times, cover her babies and do the whole process over again...and again...and again....like 20 times - not exaggerating
She has an infectious little smile; and it just couldn’t get any bigger!
is very thoughtful and loves to care for other people…she will come over and give you a hug if you’re not feeling well or she will make sure owen has everything he needs. the other day: with owen’s milk in her hand: ‘i gonna put this right here for you, alright? i gonna put this on the counter, owen’
she’s also very adventurous! she likes to try new things – most of the time..and definitely more so than owen ever did. she was so excited to go on a seadoo ride with papa this summer!
big girl at 2 1/2 with her bear
love you sweet little miss sydney – you definitely bring joy to our lives and brighten our days with your sweet smile :)

zoo
Way back before the coldness set in, I took a day off and joined the play group for their friday outing – we headed to the zoo w the kiddos!
they had a blast! loretta and fiona (al too) enjoying the monkeys…
A big hit was watching all the trout swim in the pond
All the kiddos…
The birds were also another hit…owen got right in there and wasn’t afraid for them to land on the stick he was holding (i think because of our visit to Boulder ridge earlier in the summer, he knew what to expect and thought it was pretty fun!)
Trying to share w Henry
Papa Barense with the kiddos……and a bird on his back…they loved him!
An attempted pose by the waterfall
Petting the cow…
Lots of fun on the wooden train!
Until a little mishap in this car….he fell somehow and jabbed his tooth into his lip….
poor kiddo! but he was QUITE the trooper, didn’t even cry that long and never complained about it!
Watchin the animals with William
It was a fun day spent with friends and of course my babies…they did so good and they were exhausted by the time we made it home!

Four??
A long time coming, but its about time to get a post on here to commemorate Owen’s fourth birthday!!!
Since his birthday fell over the weekend after the fourth of July, we celebrated with a small get together the weekend before at our house.
Of course his theme was soccer!!!
Grandma made a fun soccer cake for him; I think he was a little excited about it!
It was a HOT day so the kids took full advantage of playing in the water!! (that’s D with his head under water)
with the ‘uncles’ (katy is an ‘uncle’ too according to owen!)
opening his presents! (the blue and white striped bump in the back is one mr. dylan who wanted to get out of the sun and the pictures! :))
this is his face he does when he’s so excited but trying to take it all in; hilarious!
excited about his ‘tooth picks’ (guitar pics) that he got all wrapped up in a little bag and he was so proud to see that he got a guitar to go with the picks (this is my ultimate garage sale find – we had talked about getting him one forever, since he’s so into music and tries to play scott’s guitar all the time – and one day there it was – in a cute little case and everything – $5!)
all of a sudden there was a big package in the middle of the deck from gran and grandma and grandpa…what could it be?!
looks like papa might even be more excited than owen!
thanks gran, grandma, and grappy!!!
Thank you to everyone for making Owen’s fourth birthday one to remember! we all had such a good time!!
Owen and papa’s after-party jam session
and later on he had to try out his bike
here’s what syd had goin on while she was watching her bro…had to wear her helmet and pour water from container to another…crazy kid!
We were up north on his actual birthday, so of course we had to celebrate a little then too…
birthday breakfast - pancake in the shape of a four with a pinwheel! :)
so what is that little guy up to at FOUR years old??
loves everything about fishing: the minute he wakes up at the cottage he asks to go out fishing, he loves watching it on tv, there are fishing references everywhere: putting on his seatbelt –” i don’t have enough line here”
uncles have him into all things sports related: basketball (throwing a tennis ball into the hoop), baseball (playing catch), frisbee, football (catch)
he’s really into soccer – gets to start playing in mid september with the “little kickers” league in park township
takes great care of his little sister – he’s always looking out for her, goes to get things for her
He’s going to preschool this year again, its one that’s combined in with daycare, so super easy for logistics for us!
loves to sing! where the watermelons grow, VBS – FLY CD (basically every song on there!), country roads (still!)
even though we’re really working on getting him not to use them, his favorite words are: butt and poop. LOL!
Naps probably less than 50% of the time – naps are about an hour
wearing size 5T clothes, and 11 1/2 shoes!
totally potty trained during the day, but still wears a pull up to bed – he sleeps SO sound!
can write his name and most letters of the alphabet
he’s also changing the way he draws people..newest additions are hands and feet. usually there is a nose and mouth too, but this one was special! :)
and no birthday post would be complete without pics of froggy buddy!
he wanted his ‘frog’ to sit by froggy buddy too!
love you so much bud, happy FOURTH birthday!!! :)
