I’ve never been a ‘runner’ – was the kid in high school who could never finish the mile run…would walk every time the teacher turned his head in gym class when we were supposed to run laps…
I ‘ran’ my first race 7 years ago – I say ‘ran’ because I finished in about 43 minutes….so there was a whole lotta walkin goin on!
fast forward a couple years and I finished my next 5k in under 30 minutes….
After that, two kids followed and there wasn’t much running going on.
in 2011ish – I started the couch to 5k program…like probably couldn’t run or more than 60 seconds at a time – but finished that up and ran off and on for the next couple years.
In 2013, I decided I wanted to run a 10k (6.2 miles) so I started running on a more consistent basis – but I had never gone any distance longer than 3.5 miles. I surprised myself early into my training by breaking that 5 mile barrier and in May – I ran my first 10k – my goal was to finish in under an hour….
I ran with two friends of mine sarah and nichole….sarah finished ahead of Nichole and I – but – we did it - finished and in under an hour! I had terrible allergy issues that day and I tend to get all nervous and overwhelmed during a race anyway – so I really had to push through a few spots, but thanks to Nichole running right there beside me – I did it! What an amazing feeling!!!
Jen took this pic of us right at the end of the race near the finish line…I think we look pretty darn good for just running 6 miles!
We had to pose for a photo op!
my bro ran the race with me too – although he finished about 15 minutes before I did – he sped past me just after we started and I didn’t see him again until the finish line!!!
Next up: a half marathon…..
but for now, after this race? we promptly headed to Bigby’s for a muffin and latte
