So, our Halloween festivities started Monday night when we carved pumpkins with the kiddos…(we were going to take a family trip to the pumpkin patch – but papa took a tumble from the roof while cleaning out the gutters and Owen and I settled on the Farmers Market instead…he picked them all out by himself…we were going to just get one for Owen and one for Sydney, but he insisted on one for Papa, too!
Syd is so excited to get started!
Syd preferred to eat her spoon!
and then bang it on the metal bowl!
She loved the feel of the squish pumpkin!
Owen got to help papa get all the pumpkin goo out!
So serious!
Our attempt at a family picture on the timer… At this point, Syd was ready for a nap and Owen was sketching out faces on a paper plate. We put Sydney to bed and she was kinda whining a little bit and Owen said “stop crying Sinee, we’re drawin faces”….
Checking out the finished products….I think Owen was more excited last year about the whole pumpkin carving thing, he is just so unsure of new things at this stage, that I don’t think he really caught on to how fun it was until we were almost done, but he still enjoyed checking out the final product!
For some reason, he also loved to smell them!
Owen got to pick out what he wanted on his pumpkin and he didn’t want a face, he wanted “an O for Owen'”
When Sydney got up, she got to pose by the pumpkins too!
So can you guess what Owen was for Halloween? OF COURSE, he was Mickey Mouse!
He was very scared of his costume for quite a while. I tried to show it to him and even tried to put it on him once or twice, but he wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with it. Then on Friday at school, the kids did a costume parade, and his teachers said he was SO excited he could hardly stand it – to get his costume on like the rest of the kids. they went parading through the halls and went on a pumpkin hunt and made lots of fun pumpkin crafts.
So Saturday, we had planned to take him trick or treating and we knew the costume would be a success, so we met up with cousins Dylan and Kenzie and all the kids on Paul’s side of the family.
Sydney was sleeping when we were leaving so we left her at home with Gran – Owen was SO excited. when we got there and were walking toward the house, someone asked where Mickey Mouse was and Owen held up both of his hands and excitedly said “right here”. So cute!!
He got to play a little before we headed out on the town.
Bumble Bee Kenzie, and Pirate Dylan with Mr Mickey
Somehow ALL of the kids are looking!
Owen with his little lip kazoo – he LOVED that thing!
We headed out a bit after 6:00 – and hit up a trunk or treat at a nearby church. Owen got TONS of loot and could not stop staring into his bucket!
Since it was getting late, and we were still going to try to hit some houses in our neighborhood too, we decided to split from the group and head back to the car. He had SO much fun running up to the houses and saying Trick or Treat! He would only go up with one of us – and when he got his candy he would say thank you then run back to the sidewalk and say - “me get more treats”
Trick or Treating with Papa!
We hit about 15 or so houses and headed home – it was about 7:15 when we got back to the car and someone was VERY tired! When we got back to our neighborhood he went to three more houses, but he was just not in to it at all! He even let us put his treats away and got ready for bed without a fuss, it was a lot of excitement for one night! :) I think Trick or Treating was a success!
Even though Syd didn’t get to partake in the trick or treating fun, we still dressed her up and got some cute pics…
My little monkey…
Checking out some leaves
baby monkey and her papa!
Murph wanted to get in on the fun too (sorry no costume for him – although we have a good idea for next year; we’re gonna try to dye his fur red and he can be clifford and Sydney can dress up as Emily)
Happy Girl!!!
And that, is Halloween at the Kole’s! :)
